Does it still need an introduction? The Cessna Citation CJ2 is one of the most widely available light jets in Europe. Produced between 2000 and 2006, then refined as the CJ2+ until 2016, it is one of those aircraft that helped shape the light jet charter market — and continues to play a central role in it.
At MK Partnair, we know this market well. There are a lot of CJ2s available in Europe — but there is a wide range of quality out there. We work with the operators who maintain and run their aircraft properly, and we know which ones to avoid. That knowledge is what makes the difference when we put a CJ2 in front of you.
On board the CJ2 — The passenger experience
A classic, well-sized light jet cabin
The CJ2 is a stretched version of the CJ1 — Cessna added 1.50 m of cabin length to go from 5 to 6 passengers and significantly increase the onboard space. The result is a well-proportioned light jet cabin, with no surprises, and everything you need for a 1h to 2h30 flight in good conditions.
- 6 leather seats — 4 in face-to-face club configuration + 2 rear seats
- Fold-out tables at every seat
- Lavatory — present on the vast majority of CJ2s; some have a wooden door, others a curtain. We always confirm the exact configuration of the specific aircraft.
- Galley with refreshments
- 110V power outlets on board
- Luggage — 3 compartments for a generous total capacity
💡 MK Partnair’s take: The CJ2 is an honest, reliable aircraft with strong market presence — which works in favour of availability and pricing. But there are many aircraft with very different histories: some operators maintain their fleets impeccably, others less so. We know the difference, and we will never put a CJ2 in front of you that we wouldn’t be comfortable boarding ourselves.
What you need to know
- Cabin height: 1.45 m — not full standing height
- Cabin width: 1.47 m
- Optimal configuration: 4 to 5 passengers — at 6, the two rear seats are less comfortable
- Watch the range with 6 passengers — see performance section below
- Variable quality depending on the operator — we select on your behalf

CJ2 vs CJ2+ — What’s the practical difference?
For a passenger on board, both versions are virtually identical — same cabin, same dimensions, same seats. The differences are technical:
- Range — the CJ2+ has a significantly higher range with 4 passengers (~3,430 km vs ~2,800 km). On longer missions, this matters a great deal.
- Speed — the CJ2+ is slightly faster (774 km/h vs 740 km/h)
- Avionics — the CJ2+ features FADEC and a more modern Garmin suite
For a Paris–Geneva or Paris–Nice flight with 3 or 4 passengers, both versions are perfectly adequate. For longer destinations or with 5 to 6 passengers on board, the CJ2+ is clearly preferable.
⚠️ Range with 6 passengers — a critical point
This is the point many brokers don’t mention — and one we tell you clearly: with 6 passengers on board, the CJ2’s range drops drastically. The aircraft is certified for 6 people, but the combined weight of passengers, luggage, and fuel leaves very little margin.
In practice:
- With 4 light passengers — range is good, standard European destinations are accessible
- With 5 passengers and normal luggage — manageable on shorter routes
- With 6 passengers and luggage — range drops significantly. Routes like Paris–Ibiza or Paris–Marrakech may require a technical stop. We always check before confirming.
💡 MK Partnair’s take: We always calculate the actual payload before confirming a CJ2 on a route. If you are 5 or 6 passengers with normal luggage on a flight over 2 hours, we may redirect you towards a Phenom 300 or CJ3 — not because the CJ2 cannot fly, but because the operational margin will be more comfortable and the flight more straightforward.
Performance and accessible destinations
An efficient jet for short European missions
Powered by 2 Williams-Rolls FJ44 engines, the CJ2 performs well on short to medium missions. It can operate from runways under 1,000 m, opening access to a wide range of regional airports.
Sample routes from Paris
| Destination | Flight time | Recommended airport |
|---|---|---|
| Geneva | ~55 min | Geneva-Cointrin |
| Nice | ~1h15 | Nice Côte d’Azur |
| London | ~1h05 | Farnborough, Biggin Hill |
| Barcelona | ~1h30 | El Prat or Sabadell |
| Milan | ~1h15 | Linate |
| Ibiza | ~1h45 * | Ibiza Airport |
| Dublin | ~1h55 | Dublin Airport |
* Paris–Ibiza with 5–6 passengers and luggage may require a payload check depending on the version (CJ2 or CJ2+). We always verify this before confirming.
How much does it cost to charter a Citation CJ2?
Indicative pricing
The CJ2 sits in the mid light jet segment — above the Citation M2, and at comparable levels depending on the version and availability. The CJ2+ is generally slightly more expensive due to its better performance. Here are indicative one-way ranges:
| Route | Indicative price (one-way) |
|---|---|
| Paris → Geneva | €7,500 – €10,000 |
| Paris → Nice | €9,000 – €12,000 |
| Paris → London | €8,500 – €11,500 |
| Paris → Barcelona | €10,000 – €13,500 |
| Paris → Ibiza | €13,500 – €17,000 |
*Net prices, including airport taxes and crew. Variable based on availability, version (CJ2 or CJ2+) and aircraft positioning.*
Frequently asked questions — Citation CJ2 charter
What is the difference between the CJ2 and the CJ2+?
For a passenger on board, both versions are practically identical — same cabin, same dimensions, same comfort. The differences are technical: the CJ2+ offers significantly more range with 4 passengers (~3,430 km vs ~2,800 km), a slightly higher cruise speed (774 km/h vs 740 km/h), updated avionics with FADEC, and better efficiency under load. For short flights with few passengers, both are fine. For longer missions or more people on board, the CJ2+ is clearly preferable.
Can you fly 6 passengers in a CJ2?
Technically yes — the CJ2 is certified for 6 passengers. In practice, with 6 passengers and luggage, the range drops drastically. For flights over 1h30 with 6 people on board, we always check the actual payload and may recommend a Phenom 300 or CJ3 instead.
Does the CJ2 have a lavatory?
Yes, on the vast majority of aircraft — but the quality varies: some have a wooden door, others a curtain divider. We always confirm the exact configuration of the specific aircraft at the time of the quote.
How does MK Partnair select its CJ2 operators?
There are many CJ2s available in Europe — and a wide disparity in how they are maintained and operated. We know the operators who manage their aircraft well, and we know which ones to avoid. We will never put an aircraft in front of you that we wouldn’t be comfortable boarding ourselves.
What is the range of the CJ2?
With 4 light passengers, the CJ2 has a range of approximately 2,800 km (1,511 nm). The CJ2+ reaches approximately 3,430 km (1,852 nm) under the same conditions. With 6 passengers and luggage, these figures drop significantly — we always calculate the actual payload before confirming.
