ATR, short for Avions de Transport Régional, was created by the European manufacturer Airbus and the Italian manufacturer Leonardo S.p.A. to meet the needs of regional placements for groups of 40 to 100 passengers.
The ATR-72 is a larger version of the ATR-42. This aircraft usually has 72 seats on the charter market. Thanks to an upgrade of the ATR-72, ATR-72-600s are beginning to be available in 78-seat configuration without degrading its range.
An economical choice for short and medium-haul travel in Europe, the ATR-72 can connect to airports that are inaccessible to larger aircraft. It is perfectly suited to the regional travel needs of sports teams and professional delegations on flights of less than 2.5 hours. Its hold with its large cargo door allows to avoid carrying bulky luggage such as metal boxes and canteens.
